We are looking for caring, resilient people for our new childrenβs home team at Beck Lodge. Beck Lodge is a home for one child aged 14 at point of admission, who needs specific support and safeguarding. You will be part of a new team where you will build and be part of a team where the child is respected, listened to, and involved in as many decisions as possible.β
The home is easily commutable from towns such as Fordingbridge, Salisbury, Wilton, Amesbury, Romsey, Warminster and Andover. Could you be that someone who can connect with a child and change their life? If so, please continue to read about the role.
Your emotional resilience is key to this role as the child you will be supporting may display harmful sexualised behaviour and will need supporting adults to form a team who can confidently respond and safeguard. If you have a background in mental health, supporting either children or adults and have a strong sense of personal authority and feel able to work confidently and consistently within this team environment we would love to hear from you.
The role can be challenging. As a result of adverse childhood experiences and history of trauma, the child may have attachment difficulties, will struggle to manage their emotions and behaviours. With the training we provide and continued support from the Beck Lodge team, you will be equipped with the skills and confidence you need to manage these challenges but will need to be committed to empathising with the child and managing your own emotions.
βOur child has had many adults come in and out of their lives, often adding to their trauma. Therefore, we are looking for committed and dedicated people that want to continue to grow a career out of this rewarding role and not give up at the first hurdle. Youβll be a natural at building a rapport with children and someone who is full of empathy, so you can understand and relate to the child you work with, regardless of challenges presented and own personal feelings that can be triggered.
As a Residential Care Worker your day will be varied and interesting whilst also following a planned structure and boundaries, so everyone knows what to expect. You will support the child to learn healthy routines, take them to appointments, help with schooling, complete household tasks, and ensure electronic records are up to date. Youβll also be able to take the children on trips - how many people can say they get to go kayaking, watch a film or go to a theme park in their working day?
Our leadership team will invest in your progression as a professional in the childcare sector. Not only do we source and deliver up to date training opportunities, but we also prioritise and discuss your personal development goals to ensure youβre getting the most out of your career. We know how important it is that we look after you, so you can look after the children who need you, and thatβs one of the key reasons we were named Employer of the Year at the National Children and Young People Awards 2021. β
When it comes to our residential staff, we donβt settle for second best. We are currently seeking someone with experience and/or QCF Level 3/4 in Children and Young people. However, the right attitude, dedication, personal qualities, and levels of resilience are just as important (we will support you to complete further qualifications). What ultimately matters is that you share our vision and determination to turn childrenβs lives around.
