As an Electrical Design Engineer onΒ theΒ StarlinkΒ Payload EngineeringΒ team, youβll have ownership over the entire life-Β cycle of the hardware that enables this connectivity,Β and sits at the intersection of electrical, mechanical, thermal, software, and antenna/RF engineering. Our teamΒ specializes inΒ the design ofΒ industry-leading phasedΒ arrayΒ andΒ parabolic antennas,Β as well as theΒ fully customΒ networking,Β compute, andΒ modemΒ hardwareΒ which drive them.Β Common design elements includeΒ high powerΒ mixed-signalΒ ASICs,Β cutting edgeΒ PAM4Β SerDes,Β fully custom RF front ends and antenna elements,Β highly reliable andΒ denseΒ powerΒ conversionΒ and distribution, extremeΒ temperatureΒ environments,Β customΒ copper and optoelectronicΒ interconnect, and tight electromechanical/thermal integrationΒ designed forΒ mass manufacturing.Β EngineersΒ are deeply involved with their products fromΒ concept to deorbit. Typical ownership spansΒ block diagrams and high-level concept of operations definition,Β requirements capture,Β part selection andΒ schematic capture,Β PCB layoutΒ oversight, signal and power integrity analysis,Β supply chainΒ and vendorΒ engagement,Β hardware bring up and qualification,Β production test definition,Β troubleshooting and failure analysis, review of hardware performance on orbit,Β andΒ theΒ incorporation of lessons learned and design improvements for the next generation.Β
Β RESPONSIBILITIES:Β
- Rapidly develop high-reliability electronics for satellites and spacecraft.
- Drive system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, PCB layout, prototyping, hardware bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, test, and on-orbit performance of complex electrical designs
- Get hands-on and support hardware through production, satellite integration, and flight
- Work closely with engineers from adjacent disciplines (mechanical, thermal, software, test, supply chain, silicon design,Β RF and antenna,Β ) to deliver tightly integrated, high-performance hardware
- Challenge assumptions, question requirements, learn from your mistakes, and approach problems with an open mind
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:Β
- Bachelorβs degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering,Β physics, or another STEM discipline
- 5+ years of experienceΒ design/analysis ofcircuits, electronic products, or hardware Β
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:Β
- Masterβs degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar engineering degree
- 5+ years of electronic product experience designing hardware from concept through production; strong emphasis on full life-cycle development of new hardware products and not small incremental updates to legacy hardware
- 3+ years of experience designing and implementing mixed-signal circuit boards from concept through production using processors, FPGAs, Ethernet, multi-GHz Serdes, DRAM interfaces (DDR4, LPDDR5, etc.), I2C, SPI,Β RFsignalΒ chains, operational amplifiers, analog to digital and digital to analog converters, and power supply componentsΒ
- 3+ years of professional experience testing, troubleshooting, and debugging electronics
- Strong understanding of computers and programming languages (Python, C/C++)
- Demonstrated ability to work in a highly cross-functional role
- ExperienceΒ working onΒ space grade hardware
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:Β
- Ability to work extended hours or weekends as needed for mission critical deadlines
- Some travel may occasionally be required
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Pay Range:
Level 3: $150,000.00 - $245,000.00
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
